Athiya Shetty, daughter of veteran actor Suniel Shetty, made her Bollywood debut in 2015 alongside Sooraj Pancholi in Salman Khan’s production Hero. Although her entry into the industry generated buzz, the film didn’t receive much critical acclaim, and her performance met with mixed reactions. After her last film, Motichoor Chaknachoor in 2019, Athiya gradually stepped away from the limelight, leaving fans curious about her sudden disappearance from the film scene.

Now married to cricketer KL Rahul and a mother, Athiya has shifted her focus away from acting. In a recent interview, Suniel Shetty addressed her career decision, which has sparked mixed reactions online. While promoting his film Kesari Veer, Suniel revealed that Athiya consciously chose to leave the film industry after just three films.

He shared, “Athiya told me, ‘Baba, I don’t want to do it.’ She made a clear decision to step back from acting. She had multiple offers after Motichoor Chaknachoor, but she was firm in her choice. I respect her for that — for knowing what she wants and not continuing just for the sake of it.”

Following this revelation, many netizens criticized both Athiya and Suniel. Some questioned the need for an announcement, pointing out that her absence from the screen since 2019 already indicated her departure. Others mocked her short-lived acting stint and her performance in films. Comments ranged from, “It was clear after her first movie,” to “She never really acted in the first place.”

Despite the backlash, Suniel Shetty praised his daughter’s honesty and self-awareness, applauding her for making a bold decision to step away from something that didn’t align with her interests.
